Do you design first, or write first? Do you build the layout and then hand it to a content writer to fill in the blanks?

I've come to believe design and content aren't two separate steps — they're one collaborative process. On every project, it's been a revelation to work alongside a content writer who asks the right questions while the design is still taking shape. That back-and-forth is what makes a brand feel whole rather than assembled.

Tone is a big part of it, too. Is the brand funny? Sarcastic? Warm and reassuring? A good content writer helps bring that voice to life in step with the visual design, so the words and the look are saying the same thing.

It's the same belief that runs through everything we do at Studio Burfi: great products still need great teachers — and great teaching needs design and words working together.

I'd love to hear how other designers and writers approach it. Do you start with the words, or with the design?
